ENERGEX today
ENERGEX has owned and operated one of Australia's largest electricity distribution networks for almost 85 years. In late 1997, what was then an electricity company, began preparing for the competitive energy market by rebranding the business to better position itself against competitors. Recognising the strategic importance of increased scope and scale in a deregulated industry, ENERGEX aggressively pursued a multi-utility strategy. This resulted in the acquisition of a South East Queensland gas company in 1998. It established ENERGEX as a dual fuel provider, broadening its customer offerings and driving greater efficiencies in customer service, asset management and operational performance.
ENERGEX further consolidated its position as a major player in natural gas in 1999 when it secured the Victorian Release Gas Program to become the fourth retailer granted the right to sell gas in Victoria.
Over the years, the company has evolved from a monopoly, selling one product in one limited market, to a major force in Australia's energy industry.

ENERGEX has capitalised on its expertise and proven core skills in managing energy assets to develop new products and services. As customers demand increasingly sophisticated solutions to better control and monitor their energy use, ENERGEX has established two specialised businesses to focus on these market opportunities.
Since its establishment, Metering Dynamics has captured a significant share of Australia's metering business through the provision of leading edge metering services and consultancy. The second business, energyimpact, has rapidly evolved as a provider of energy solutions including designing, building, owning and operating on-site energy infrastructure for large commercial, industrial and government customers. energyimpact's success is also partially due to its ability to meet the increasing demand for green energy solutions.
ENERGEX's core engineering skills in asset planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of infrastructure networks are also increasingly sought after. The company has won major network asset servicing and management projects in Australia and in New Zealand.
