Energex continues to grow with Brisbane City through a five-year project to increase the capacity of the underground power network in the Central Business District (CBD).
This project will ensure a safe and reliable underground power supply continues to be delivered to new and existing customers of Brisbane’s CBD.
Work involves the installation of underground conduits beneath the footpaths of a number of CBD streets.
In the future, these conduits will be used to house power cables to ensure the CBD's electricity demands continue to be met.
These upgrades began in August 2010 resulting in new conduits being embedded along several CBD streets including Albert, Roma, Margaret and Ann Streets.
Stage Four involves the excavation of trenches and laying of conduits underneath footpaths along parts of Charlotte, Elizabeth, Ann, Adelaide, Edward, and George Streets. Refer to the attached community newsletters for maps of the Stage Four works.
This stage of the project is scheduled to begin mid April 2012 and be completed mid August 2012.
We would like to thank the local residents, businesses and road users for their ongoing support and patience as we work to deliver these necessary upgrades.
The new conduits will be larger and more robust than the existing, therefore providing a more durable and reliable electricity infrastructure for Brisbane CBD’s future.
The installation of these conduits will also minimise any impact on CBD businesses and residents when future cable installations are required to maintain and upgrade the network.
Energex is committed to working with businesses and residents to complete this project as efficiently as possible.
