ENERGEX proposes to redevelop the existing Coorparoo Substation on Holdsworth Street and Cavendish Road, Coorparoo.
The proposed redevelopment aims to gain the following benefits:
In November 2011, the submission period closed for the second round of community and stakeholder consultation. This round of consultation involved the presentation of the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
The EIS presented the findings of detailed investigations undertaken by ENERGEX in relation to site selection, engineering considerations, and social, economic and environmental issues.
ENERGEX would like to thank the community for your cooperation during the Community Infrastructure Designation (CID) Process.
Community consultation
ENERGEX are committed to working with the local community and actively sought community comment and feedback about the proposal.
Consultation provided the opportunity for the community to share local knowledge and insight, ensuring that the issues and concerns raised were considered during planning.
Throughout the CID Process for the project, ENERGEX consulted with stakeholders, potentially affected landowners and community representatives to obtain input.
Coorparoo’s location provides a centralised point for additional ENERGEX infrastructure and a suitable location for extending the electricity network.
If the proposed substation redevelopment is approved, it will be constructed in stages to ultimately include:
The area around Coorparoo Substation is earmarked for significant residential and commercial growth and will also become a major public transport hub with the construction of the new Eastern Busway.
The completed project would see a total of six buildings on site, including three new architecturally-designed facilities and one pre-fabricated building.
ENERGEX's equipment, including the new transformers, would be enclosed within these buildings to improve visual amenity, reduce equipment noise and improve reliability by reducing the impacts of weather.
A new brick fence would be constructed along the Cavendish Road boundary and sections of the Holdsworth Street boundary.
Landscaping and revegetation would also be incorporated along each of these boundaries.
