SunCoast Power Project

A Sunshine Coast beachENERGEX has successfully obtained government approval to construct the the SunCoast Power Project – the most significant electrical infrastructure project to be built on the Sunshine Coast.

The project will consist of the construction of a new sub-transmission powerline from Palmwoods East to Pacific Paradise, a new switching station at Eudlo, a new substation at Pacific Paradise and an upgrade to our existing substation at Jones Road, Maroochydore.

The project is set to underpin previous growth and forecast population and energy increases in one of the country’s fastest growing areas.

It will pave the way for a complete overhaul of the electricity network on the Sunshine Coast, allowing us to secure the electricity supply for the next 50 years.

Construction

The construction timeline sets out dates for key milestones throughout the construction process.

These dates are subject to weather conditions and possible schedule disruptions along the construction route, which includes suburbs such as Palmwoods, Chevallum, Forest Glen, Kunda Park, West Maroochydore and Pacific Paradise.

Our community liaison team will notify you of construction activities via notification flyers or newsletters.

Looking out for the environment

We will implement a Construction Environment Management Plan to mitigate impacts on residents, wildlife and the environment.

Project benefits

Benefits for the Sunshine Coast include:

  • Meeting predicted growth and existing electricity demand on the Sunshine Coast
  • Increasing network security by providing more power restoration options during interruptions such as storms
  • Major injection of electricity areas north of Maroochy River such as Marcoola, Twin Waters, Mudjimba, Pacific Paradise and Coolum

Previous communication

We first announced the project in December 2006 and provided extensive communication to local residents, key stakeholders and the wider community throughout the four year community consultation process.
