live linesperson training
Live Lineperson Training is a Certificate IV course and has been designed specifically for electricity industry linespersons.
The applicant must complete Certificate III in Esi Distribution (powerline) or its equivalent before starting this course.

After completing the course, the successful trainee
will have knowledge and skills in stick method, glove
and barrier method or combined glove and barrier sticks
method. See below for an overview of the course stages.

live line insulating stick authorisation
outcomes
After completing this section of the course, the successful
trainee will be qualified to perform the following:
- specified live-line tasks on pole-carrying lines at voltages up to and including 132kV, as set out in the live line manual
- live-line work, using insulating gloves and barriers, on lines at voltages up to and including 33kV.
After completing the course, the successful trainee will have in-depth knowledge on the following:
- the operation of specified linework equipment (for example, elevating work platforms, power winches, chainsaws and GP trucks).

trainee will be qualified to perform the following:
- specified live-line tasks, using insulating gloves and barriers, on pole-carrying lines at voltages up to and including 33kV
- using insulating sticks restricted to voltages up to and including 66kV as detailed in the live-line manual
- live-line work, using insulating pole-carrying lines at voltages up to and including 132kV.

rescue from heights and safe height access training
outcomes
After completing this section of the course, the successful
trainee will have knowledge and skills in the following:
- emergency rescue techniques and ascending and descending from heights
- industry-approved rescue techniques
- rescue techniques suitable for emergency situations while working at heights
- self-rescue or evacuation from heights techniques
- correct use of a Shepherd’s Hook, and associated safety equipment, in conjunction with a full body harness to ascend and descend towers and structures
- safe work practices compliance while working at heights.

| Details | Rescue from Heights Training has been
specifically designed to complement the skills of electricity
industry linespersons. This section of the course is for personnel
required to master safe workplace and rescue procedures in the
electricity, mining, telecommunications and industrial sectors.
For training in heights rescue and safe height access, trainees must know how to use a full body harness. Refresher training on using a full body harness is incorporated into this training. |
