About Lightning Tracker

Global Position and Tracking Systems (GPATS), an organisation specialising in advanced lightning tracking, have receivers throughout Australia which capture the date/time of each strike and transmit the data to a central analyser in Sydney. The central analyser marries the data from multiple receivers and plots the strike locations. The relevant plot information is sent to ENERGEX to convert the data into the Storm Map you see on the web site.

ENERGEX negotiated an agreement GPATS to allow the display of limited lightning data on our web site. ENERGEX are bound by a legal contract not to provide lightning strike data to any party other than through the ENERGEX web site and only to provide data that is currently available on our web site. This agreement also allows us to display lightning information on the Austext service. Under this agreement, ENERGEX must delay the publication of Lightning Tracker data by 15 minutes.

ENERGEX does not own the lightning information provided by GPATS. We are bound by a contract with GPATS allowing us to display limited lightning information on our web site.
