clean energy & improvement programs
Clean energy initiatives and internal improvement programs are just some of the ways we're helping to improve the environment for future generations.
meeting the greenhouse challenge
Through distribution efficiencies and reductions in our own energy
use, we are significantly
reducing our direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions.
cleaner energy
energyimpact, our asset management business, is developing nine landfill gas production
and cogeneration schemes in Queensland and Victoria. These schemes
convert greenhouse gases that would otherwise be waste, into energy
that is then provided to customers.
Providing an innovative alternative fuel solution for the Brisbane City Council, energyimpact designed and built a Compressed Natural Gas refuelling plant that fuels 120 buses with natural gas instead of diesel. This is helping to improve air quality and provide passengers with a quieter, more comfortable ride.
greener fleets
Through our partnership with Greening Australia, a native tree planting program, we plan to fully offset greenhouse gas emissions from our vehicle fleet by June 2006. We have worked with Greening Australia to develop a program that is focused on achieving ecologically sustainable and economically viable revegetation sites to off set our vehicle fleet carbon emissions.
creating greener offices
ENERGEX buildings maintain green office initiatives incorporating
energy efficient use of lighting, computers, printers and air conditioning.
This assists in offsetting greenhouse gases and reduces waste through
the recycling of items such as paper and toner cartridges.
best-practice environmental management systems
The ENERGEX Environmental Management System (EMS) incorporates environmental
responsibilities into our corporate agenda and business practices.
The EMS, an international environmental standard ISO 14001-certified
system, operates across our entire organisation and is a key element
in our environment commitment.
investing in new energy sources
Investing in technology that contributes to the development of new
clean energy sources, we continue to support a strategic investment
in Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited (CFCL). This development company is
working towards market commercialisation of a 40 kW fuel cell to
convert gas and other cleaner energy sources to electricity.
native revegetation - flora and fauna protected in community partnerships
An innovative new approach to managing bush and water catchment rehabilitation following capital works projects has been introduced by the Environmental Services Department. The approach hands over revegetation to local community bushcare and catchment groups at worksites that are environmentally sensitive.
