ENERGEX restores power to more than 20,000

22 February 2012

ENERGEX crews have worked through the night to restore power to more than 20,000 homes and businesses in South East Queensland who lost power during yesterday afternoon’s storms.

At 9am today power had been restored to all except 800 customers in Cooroy, Black Mountain and Gympie – the worst affected areas.

While most power has been restored there may be some isolated interruptions that ENERGEX is not aware of so residents who think they’re the only on in their street without power or live on a large property are encouraged to call ENERGEX on
13 62 62.

The majority of last night’s power interruptions were the result of strong winds of up to 70 kilometres per hour, and lightning strikes (more than 23,000 were recorded in South East Queensland between midday and midnight).

ENERGEX thanked customers for their patience last night and this morning as crews finalise power restoration.
