Mudgeeraba’s local electricity network gets a boost

16 July 2012

Energex has commenced a $3.5 million upgrade of the local electricity network in Mudgeeraba to ensure the ongoing reliability of electricity supply to homes and businesses in the area.

The project will include constructing new trenches, using existing conduits and tunnel boring, to install new underground power cables.

As part of the upgrade, crews will also be installing new electrical equipment in various locations to enable quicker and easier access to the new underground electricity network.

Energex’s Principal Asset Officer Franco Putzolu said the project would improve power reliability and ensure ongoing supply for customers.

“Energex is committed to providing all areas of South East Queensland with a safe and reliable electricity supply and this project will ensure we continue to deliver on this commitment now and into the future,” he said.

“The project will improve power supplies for more than 5,500 homes and businesses in the Mudgeeraba area and allow greater access to the underground power network which will in turn enable Energex technicians to isolate and restore electricity quickly if unexpected power interruptions occur.”

Subject to weather conditions works are due to be completed by December 2012.

Mr Putzolu thanked the local community in advance for their patience during the upgrades.

This project is part of a five-year capital expenditure program being undertaken by Energex to upgrade the South East Queensland electricity network.
