What is a service line?A service line is the overhead line that connects buildings to the overhead electricity network in your street to supply you with electricity.
We undertake inspections and replacements to service lines as part of our comprehensive maintenance program for South East Queensland’s electricity network.
The program involves inspecting the service line between the customer’s premise and the pole. If the lines or associated equipment need replacing, households or businesses may have short power interruptions while the work is safely undertaken.
Our recent inspections have identified that the black insulation covering some overhead service lines has deteriorated earlier than normal, with the potential of exposing live electricity conductors.
The defective insulation covering does not present any out-of-the ordinary risks. Simply stay away from overhead powerlines at all times – regardless of whether they are defective or not – and you will be safe.
There is no increased risk of fires, power interruptions or shocks inside your premise.

This is an example of the effects of deteriorated insulation – never attempt to inspect service lines yourself. Our crews will inspect and replace wires if necessary.
