Storm safety checklist

Before storm season

  • Torch, matches, candles, mobile, phone abd first aid kitTidy up loose items and trim overhanging tree branches. Do not attempt to trim trees near powerlines.
  • Keep a battery-operated radio handy to listen for power restoration updates.
  • Keep a torch handy in case power supply is interrupted.
  • Keep spare batteries for torches and radio.
  • Charge your laptop computer so you can check power outage information on our website.
  • Charge your mobile phone or have access to a phone that doesn't require mains power to operate.
  • Register for early severe weather warning alerts at Australian Early Warning Network, or for Brisbane residents, Brisbane City Council's Early Warning Alert Service.

During a storm

  • Wet electricity plugIf power is lost, turn off and unplug electrical items.
  • Listen to your local radio station or check our mobile website www.energex.com.au/mobile from your smart phone for power restoration updates.
  • For your safety, always use a torch for light if you have lost power and avoid using candles and flames.
  • Do not use wet or damp electrical items.

After a storm

  • Stay away from fallen powerlines.
  • Alert people of any danger.
  • Call our emergency line on 13 19 62 to report fallen powerlines.
  • Call our loss of supply line on 13 62 62 to report a power outage or to get the latest power restoration updates.
