When I called to see if my power was out from work, your system gave me the wrong information?
Our automated telephone system works on a postcode basis which detects the location of the phone number from which you are calling and will automatically provide information about that area. If you ring from a different location, or from a mobile, you will need to wait until the initial information is provided and then you will be prompted to enter the postcode you are requiring information about.
Do I need a generator this summer?
ENERGEX respects that some people have a need for generators. However, if residents are going to install generators, they must ensure these are kept in well ventilated areas. Also, residents shouldnt overload their powerpoints or connect the generator to their home wiring unless installed by a licensed electrician.
Should a power interruption occur in your area, ENERGEX will work quickly and safely to restore electricity supply. You can call ENERGEX on 13 62 62 for restoration updates.
I do not have a complete power outage, only partial power in my home?
Firstly, check and reset your safety switch which is located in your fuse box. If it will not reset, please call your electrician. If your safety
switch is on and you have partial power, please contact ENERGEX on
13 62 62 and speak to an operator.
I do not have a complete power outage, but my lights are dimly glowing?
If you have dimly lit lighting you should switch off all electrical motors such as your fridge and pool pump at the power point and call ENERGEX on 13 62 62. Leave a light on to remind you to turn your appliances back on when power is restored.
How long will the food in my fridge last?
If you don’t open your refrigerator, the food may last up to five hours. However, this can be reduced if it is a hot day or if your fridge door is being opened too often. To keep the fridge cold, you can place frozen plastic bottles of liquid or containers of ice in your fridge. These can be kept in your freezer throughout summer, ready for emergency use in the instance of a power interruption.
I have a life support person in the house?
In this situation, it is important that you contact Queensland Ambulance if your patient requires transportation to hospital, as we cannot guarantee an accurate time that power will be restored.
The power is off and my hard wired fire alarm keeps ringing. The alarm people have left a message advising us to ring ENERGEX. What do I do?
In this situation, your back up battery would be flat. To avoid the ringing, please change the battery.
My automatic garage door is closed and I can't open it. What do I do?
It is illegal not to have a manual override on your automatic garage door. There should be either a pull string or clearly marked lever. If you are unable to locate this, please check your manual.
What do I do if my water pump is not working?
If your water supply requires a pump this may affect you. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done in this situation. However, in future you may wish to consider filling your bathtub and jugs when you see the storm front approaching, or purchasing bottled water from your local store.
What do I do if my mobile phone is running low?
Turn off your phone and only use it when necessary. If possible, plug your phone charger into the car cigarette lighter and recharge your phone.
I own a cordless phone and my power is off. What do I do?
If this occurs, please use a mobile phone or keep the older style phones that don’t need a separate power supply to report the power interruption to 13 62 62. You can also check for restoration updates on this website.
I am worried that I will oversleep, as I own an electric alarm clock?
If you do not own a battery-powered alarm clock, you can set the alarm on your mobile phone, or Telstra offers a wake up service. Please see your mobile phone manual for further details.
How do I heat my baby's bottle during a power outage?
If you do not have power, you can use hot water boiled on your barbecue to heat your child's bottle. Otherwise, your local fast food outlet may assist in filling your bottle with hot water.
I do not have a battery-operated radio and want to listen for power restoration updates?
If you do not own a battery-operated radio, you can use your car radio for news updates. However, be careful to ensure that your ignition is not engaged. You can also check for restoration updates on this website, or call us on 13 62 62.
