ENERGEX Bright Futures Program

ENERGEX is offering a unique opportunity for students to join industry leaders to address various issues circulating in the business world.

Successful nominees will be sponsored by ENERGEX to attend an event hosted by CEDA, the Committee for Economic Development Australia. Students and accompanying teachers will listen to key speakers present their views on hot topics, participate in question time and engage with representatives from Australian businesses.

By participating in the Bright Futures Series, we hope to encourage students in to work towards career goals by providing an insight into operations and issues in the business world.

Teachers are invited to nominate two students and accompany them to the selected CEDA event. At each event, up to three schools may be in attendance. Successful nominees will be determined by ENERGEX according to the student’s profile and demonstrated interest in the event topic.

To nominate a student to attend a CEDA event, you must be a Queensland School Teacher. Nominated students must be in Years 10, 11 or 12.

Complete the nomination form online before 5pm on the advertised closing date for that event. Successful applicants will be notified via phone and/or email prior up to five days after nominations close.

Events will be added to this list as the year progresses. Become a Switched On subscriber to be notified when new events are advertised.

Adapting Australia’s Infrastructure for Climate Change

Speaker(s):

Dr John Glaister, Chief Scientist, Laing O'Rourke
Dr Andrew Ash, Director, Climate Adaptation Flagship, CSIRO

As a risk management strategy, CEOs cannot ignore this strategic issue. Whether sea levels rise 1m or more, the consequences go far beyond just whether your building will be secure. Roads, rail, power, national security, communications and agri-business will all be affected due to the interrelatedness of infrastructure dependency.

Are your buildings, roads, rail, power stations climate change ready?
Is the infrastructure designed a decade ago going to cope with the changes to rising sea levels and hotter environments?
How is seaside urban sprawl contained to minimise the risks of climate change?
Do legal obligations extend to protecting infrastructure from climate change?
CSIRO is leading a consortium of experts who are examining the impacts of climate change on our built environment with particular focus on how well prepared the SEQ region is to deal with this major issue.
