Electricity is fascinating.The Switched On site, developed with the Queensland school curriculum in mind, assists students and teachers to learn about electricity and energy needs of communities. Information is presented on key scientific discoveries and inventions, the science behind electricity generation and alternative sources of energy.
For the higher learner, the physics of power generation is explained and energy formulas including calculating the energy output of turbines and how to measure heat energy are provided.
Lessons and activities for Years 1-9 align with Science and SOSE syllabi. Specific learning outcomes are identified on worksheets available for classroom use.
General information pages are provided on alternative sources of energy, ENERGEX's role as an organisation, the workings of electricity, energy use and the environment. 'Fun stuff' hosts a range of games demonstrating electricity use, energy efficiency, safety in the home and more. Screen savers and interactive activities are also available.

The Switched On site delivers important electrical safety messages. 'Your Safety' includes a series of posters modelling safe behaviour around electricity for classroom display.
