Who can apply to be an electrical tradesperson?

We really value diversity and encourage people from all backgrounds to apply, including women, mature age applicants and Indigenous Australians, as well as others from minority groups.

What are the requirements for applying?

All applicants must:

  • be an Australian Citizen or eligible for permanent residency in Australia
  • have a current drivers licence or be able to get one before starting work
  • have completed an electrical trade
  • hold a Queensland electrical licence.

How can I get an electrical licence?

You can arrange to get an electrical licence through the Electricity Safety Office.

You can contact them by phone: 1300 362 320 (8.00am - 5.30pm Mon to Fri) or via the Electrical Safety Office website.

Please note: You can apply for a job before getting your licence, but you won’t be able to start until you have one.

What training will I receive?

We offer extensive and comprehensive training to build your skills and equip you to work safely and effectively on our distribution network.

All new staff will spend a number of weeks at our training school where we assess your skills and training needs.

What salary and benefits can I expect?

We pay a competitive salary for tradespeople (depending on industry experience and qualifications) plus superannuation and allowances.

Will I be given uniforms?

Yes, we’ll give you complete sets of Energex uniforms, including all personal protective equipment (PPE).

How much annual leave can I take?

You’ll be entitled to four weeks annual leave per year.

What hours will I work?

Tradespeople work a nine-day fortnight. Start and finish times can vary, depending on your work location, but the standard working day is eight hours.

Over and above that, you’ll be expected to participate in an after-hours standby roster and be available during emergencies and storms. A reasonable amount of overtime may be required.
