As an integral part of South East Queensland local communities, Energex has been a proud supporter of the Brisbane Showgrounds and the Royal Brisbane Show for more than 20 years.
The Ekka is the largest annual community event held in Queensland, attracting more than 400,000 visitors annually who come to experience a unique mix of entertainment, agriculture and education.
Their encouragement and nurturing of Queensland's community resources such as agriculture, horticulture, industrial, manufacturing and culture highlights why Energex and the Ekka have a strong, sustainable and ongoing partnership.
Each year, we work with the Ekka to provide the community with both awareness and knowledge about energy safety.
This is primarily achieved through the Race Around Ekka program, a film competition that challenges high school students to plan, script, locate, perform in, direct, shoot, edit and produce a 30 second TV ad for the Ekka in just 24 hours. Last year, by encouraging the inclusion of our electrical safety message, "Get a buzz from the Ekka, not from electricity. Look up and live", we were able to provide the school community with the understanding they need to be safe around electricity.
To ensure widespread awareness, our energy safety initiatives are also communicated through the Ekka Learning Trail booklet and the Community Arena.
With the shared goal of improving our local communities, the Ekka and Energex will continue to strive to deliver positive and sustainable outcomes to South East Queensland.
