We are Energex

Based in South East Queensland, we have been providing electricity to Queenslanders for more than 100 years. During this time we have transformed from operating under the Brisbane City Council, the South East Queensland Electricity Board (SEQEB) and in 1995 as a Government Owned Corporation. When we changed our name to Energex in 1997 it signified our entry into the emerging competitive national energy market. In 2007, the Queensland Government sold the Energex Retail business to allow for full retail competition.

Today, Energex distributes electricity to more than 1.3 million residential, industrial and commercial customers across a population base of around 3.1 million.

At the core of the business are high performing total assets worth more than $9.8 billion, the expertise of  3,400 employees and a drive to provide customers with energy solutions that are economically, socially and environmentally acceptable and sustainable.

This is underpinned by technological innovation and advanced management systems which drive efficiency, quality and safety. Many of these are nationally or internationally certified or benchmarked to international standards.

We also place sustainability and corporate responsibility high on our corporate agenda through contemporary environmental and social practices.

Energex has developed a strong reputation for our network asset management capabilities including specialised engineering services, metering applications and energy solutions.

By continually adapting the way we do business to keep pace with the evolving marketplace, we have kept Energex at the forefront of the industry.
