Get inspired and be rewarded

Energex supports businesses to make changes that benefit energy efficiency, like upgrading certain appliances, equipment or processes.

For example, lighting may account for 10-25% of total electricity use at your business site. By upgrading or replacing your existing lighting with newer, energy saving options such as Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs), you can save on your bills while helping us manage network peak demand.

When it comes to refrigeration, small changes like retrofitting doors on open cabinets or replacing comporessors can make a big difference. There are also impressive Demand Management Systems (or Building Management Systems) on the market that control heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC), security systems, elevators, escalators and other electrical equipment, reducing peak demand on site and lowering power bills for businesses.

We offer eligible businesses funding to assist with upgrades and replacements across these areas of energy efficiency.

Visit the 'Is my business eligible?' page to check whether your business can take advantage of these rewards, or contact us to discuss your project further and find out if you qualify.

Energy efficiency projects might include:

Building Management Systems (BMS) and Demand Management Systems (DMS)

Building Management Systems (BMS), also known as Demand Management Systems (DMS) or Building Automation Systems, are computer-based control systems that monitor the building’s electrical and mechanical equipment. Installing or upgrading a BMS/DMS can help improve efficiency of equipment like heating, ventilation, fire alarms and security systems.

Hot water and steam

Hot water systems, boilers, process heating equipment and steam systems can be replaced or upgraded to new technologies to improve efficiency. You might consider reviewing your system design or adding this equipment to an integrated Building Management System (BMS), which can monitor energy use across all the major equipment in your building.

HVAC - Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning

Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment consumes a large amount of energy. To improve efficiency, consider upgrading or replacing equipment with smarter alternatives, such as PeakSmart air-conditioning. Or add these systems to an integrated Building Management System (BMS), which can monitor energy use across all the major equipment in your building.

Lifts and elevators

Lifts or elevators are another potential site for energy efficiency measures. Inefficient lifts draw larger amounts of energy themselves, but also create heat, impacting the building’s HVAC systems. Consider upgrading motors and hydraulics, making smarter lighting choices, or adding elevators to an integrated Building Management System that monitors all your building’s electrical appliances.

Lighting

By upgrading or replacing your existing lighting with more energy efficient lighting you can start saving straight away. There are a number of different lighting options available for commercial buildings and warehouses to reduce maximum electricity demand. The most popular upgrades are replacing old light bulbs and fittings with newer, energy saving options such as Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs).

Motors

Upgrading or replacing existing motors in your business-related machinery with more energy efficient motors can greatly reduce electrical demand. If possible, running motors at different times can also assist in reducing demand at a worksite. Find out more by talking to our dedicated team.

Power factor correction

Power Factor Correction (PFC) equipment is available to reduce the amount of power your business draws from the network at your peak demand time. Learn more about PFC equipment.

Refrigeration

In some industries, refrigeration is a major contributor to energy demand. You may consider replacing old units, upgrading insulation, or retrofitting seals, doors, compressors and compressor management equipment to increase efficiency.

Every business is different, so are its energy efficiency needs. Please contact the Positive Payback team to talk about project ideas to benefit your business.
