Establish a new connection or make an alteration to an existing connection

alteration to an existing supply to a premises

Energex is the Distribution Network Service Provider for most of South-East Queensland.

Before you proceed to establish a new connection, or make an alteration to an exisiting connection, check that Energex is the Distribution Network Service Provider for your area.

If you live in a rural or remote area, make sure you get your supply availability. If you are considering installing or altering an exisiting embedded generator (i.e. solar power, wind turbines etc), learn more about the application process.

Step 1: Engage an Electrician

If you are establishing a new connection, or altering an existing connection at your business or premises, you must first engage an electrician to prepare and complete the required work.

Find out more information on how to make a supply availability or embedded generation enquiry can be found here.

Step 2: Energex receives an Electrical Work Request from your Electrical Contractor

When the electrical work has been completed at your business or premises, the electrical contractor must submit an Electrical Work Request (EWR). This is to advise Energex that the work conducted at your business or premises has been carried out in accordance with the required Australian Standards, and to nominate the work Energex now needs to undertake at your premises.

On receipt of the EWR, Energex sends a copy to the electricity retailer nominated on the EWR. You will need to advise your electrical contractor who your electricity retailer is

Step 3: Energex receives a work request from your Electricity Retailer

When your electricity retailer receives the Electrical Work Request (EWR), they may contact you to confirm or set up your electricity account. They will use the contact details provided by the electrical contractor on the EWR.

Your electricity retailer then sends a work request to Energex requesting the work nominated on the EWR, to be carried out.

Step 4: Energex schedules connection or alteration of supply

Once Energex confirms the following has been received:

Energex will organise for supply to your business or premises to be connected or altered as requested.

After you are connected, the terms and conditions in the Deemed Standard Connection Contract will apply for the ongoing supply of electricity to your premises

Energex also advises that you make a supply availability enquiry about your proposed connection. This will give you an indication of relevant preliminary costs and timeframes

To make a supply availability enquiry, contact your electrician who will do this on your behalf via the Electrical Partners Portal. Alternatively, contact the Energex on 13 12 53, Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.30pm. Please allow up to 20 Business Days for Energex to conduct the necessary network investigations and provide an indicative estimate of potential costs and timeframes for you to make an informed decision.

Energex timeframes
