Make an alteration to an existing connection

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Energex has released its new Tariff Schedule effective from 1 July 2015.

There are some very important changes to note on how customers pay for individual metering connections and personalised enhancements/alterations to align with National Rules set by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER).

In short, customers requesting services will be charged upfront, rather than the current practice of spreading the costs across Energex's customer base. Energex has established a one month transition period to assist customers and electrical contractors progress these changes, and providing both the electrical work request and retailer request are received by 31 July 2015, no upfront charge will apply.

All upfront charges will apply from 1 August 2015. Find out more information about network pricing.

Energex is the Distribution Network Service Provider for most of South-East Queensland.

Before you proceed to establish a new connection, or make an alteration to an exisiting connection, check that Energex is the Distribution Network Service Provider for your area.

If you live in a rural or remote area, make sure you get your supply availability. If you are considering installing or altering an exisiting embedded generator (i.e. solar power, wind turbines etc), learn more about the application process.

Please note: A Network Connection Agreement (CX) is not required for metering and tariff changes and can be arranged through your electrical contractor (see step 2)

Step 1: Get Agreement

Before the work starts, you'll need to enter into a Network Connection Agreement with Energex.

  • Your electrical contractor will create a Network Connection Application through the Electrical Partners Portal on your behalf.  For a faster turn-around, your electrical contractor will expedite your Network Connection Application, by agreeing to the Model terms and conditions for deemed standard connection contracts.
  • If your electrical contractor is unable to complete a Network Connection Application on your behalf, you can create a Network Connection Application through the Customer Portal.
  • Your electrical contractor will be unable to complete their Electrical Work Request until a Network Connection Application is completed.
  • If you or your electrical contractor chooses not to expedite your application, Energex
    will within 10 business days
    • Advise you whether the proposed connection is a basic or standard connection service and provide you with a Network Connection Offer; or
    • Advise you of the negotiated connection process (including possible costs) if
the connection service is neither standard nor basic or the customer has elected
      to negotiate the connection contract.
  • Where the application is incomplete, Energex will advise the applicant of the
deficiency and may request resubmission of a complete application.
  • Your connection agreement is entered into when you accept Energex's connection
    offer.
  • A Network Connection Agreement (CX) is not required for metering and tariff changes

Step 2: Engage an Electrical Contractor

Your electrical contractor will prepare the premises for connection to the Energex network. When this work is complete, they will submit an Electrical Work Request (EWR) to Energex.

Step 3: Choose a Retailer

A copy of the EWR will be sent to the retailer you choose to have your electricity account with. You can find a list of retailers here.

Step 4: Energex can commence work

Once all forms are received, Energex will visit the premises to perform the requested work.

Energex also advises that you make a supply availability enquiry about your proposed connection. This will give you an indication of relevant preliminary costs and timeframes

To make a supply availability enquiry, contact your electrician who will do this on your behalf via the Electrical Partners Portal. Alternatively, contact the Energex on 13 12 53, Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.30pm. Please allow up to 20 Business Days for Energex to conduct the necessary network investigations and provide an indicative estimate of potential costs and timeframes for you to make an informed decision.
