As a reminder, all residential and commercial installations must meet the meter board location requirements set out in Section 9 of the Queensland Electricity Connection Manual (QECM) v4, particularly clauses 9.5 to 9.8.
Metering installations are required to be located at, or adjacent to, the main switchboard and positioned as close as practicable to the Distribution Network Service Provider (DNSP) service point. It must be in a location that is safe, externally accessible, and available at all times for DNSP and Metering Provider access (clauses 9.6 and 9.8.1).
For domestic premises, acceptable locations are limited to approved external positions and must not be within garages, habitable rooms, roof spaces, or other unsuitable locations listed in Table 52 and illustrated in drawings QCD09 02 and QCD09 03.
For non domestic installations, meters are typically required to be located in a dedicated switch room or service area with direct external access, suitable for ongoing operation, maintenance, and future upgrades, in accordance with clause 9.8.3 and Table 54.
Designers, Consultants and Electrical Contractors are also reminded that where site works, alterations, or redevelopments result in an existing meter board becoming non compliant, relocation may be required under clause 4.3, and a non compliant meter location may delay connection or reconnection of the premises until rectified.
