PeakSmart air conditioning

What is PeakSmart?

As we rely more on electricity in our daily lives, energy use during peak times continues to rise. Meeting this demand often requires millions of dollars in extra infrastructure. PeakSmart is one of the solutions that helps us manage peak demand and use the network more efficiently.

How PeakSmart works

PeakSmart technology uses a signal receiver—a small device installed in your PeakSmart-enabled air conditioner. When the electricity network experiences high demand, we send a signal through the power supply to temporarily cap the air conditioner’s energy consumption.

This is called a PeakSmart event, and it’s similar to switching your air conditioner to economy mode. These events only occur a few times per year, and you won’t need to do anything—your system is designed to be ‘set and forget’. Most customers notice little or no change to comfort.

Why it matters

By reducing energy use during peak periods, PeakSmart helps keep the network stable and reduces the need for costly infrastructure upgrades. It’s a smart way to manage demand and keep electricity reliable for everyone.

What happens now?

Although the PeakSmart program is now closed to new participants, the technology will continue to operate where required to manage high demand on the electricity network.

If you already have a PeakSmart-enabled air conditioner, it will remain active and responsive to network signals.
