Audio Frequency Load Control (AFLC)

For more than 50 years, we have delivered affordable Economy and Night Rate load control tariffs by employing a signalling system on our network, known as Audio Frequency Load Control (AFLC).

How the AFLC Program enables discounted economy tariffs

Customers can access economy tariffs via their electricity retailers. Check with your electricity retailer regarding the availability of economy or night rate tariffs.

These tariffs generally offer reduced rates in exchange for limited hours of power supply—at least 16 hours each day for Economy options and 8 hours daily for Night Rate options.

For most households, the primary financial advantage of these tariffs has been realised through their use with residential hot water systems and pool pumps, which are among the most energy-intensive appliances found at home.

Commercial customers may also benefit from these lower tariffs where it meets the needs of their business.
