Energex crews fixing storm damage at Bribie Island

24 November 2025

South East Queensland storms - 24 November

In the face of widespread storm damage, our field crews have worked hard to safely restore power to as many customers as possible, following a peak of 162,000 outages about 6.30pm.

As of 8.30pm on Monday 24 November, about 147,000 Energex customers were without power following severe storms.

As always, safety comes first, and this restoration work must be done safely.

All available field crews will work throughout the night on the restoration of power, with fresh crews being called in from first light Tuesday from the less-affected Energex areas and closest Ergon Energy depots.

As of 8.30pm, there were more than 900 powerlines down, and more than 880,000 lightning strikes were recorded during the storms.

The restoration of power is likely to continue into Wednesday in some areas, due to the extent of the damage and difficult access.

We urge residents to take extreme care when cleaning up storm debris, particularly fallen trees and vegetation, as powerlines may be hidden underneath debris and could well be live.

Stay well away from all fallen powerlines – always treat them as if they are live - and call Energex on 13 19 62.

Energex will have two helicopters flying quite low across the most severely damaged areas around Ipswich and Brisbane North/Sunshine Coast from first light Tuesday morning to further identify and assess damage.
