Dynamic Connections registration
Dynamic connection registration is the final step to get your dynamic system connected to our network.
Once your Dynamic Connection Application is completed, or if you have just moved into a home that has a connection capable of dynamic operation, you will receive an email from us asking you to register your dynamic system with us.
Please note, it’s very important to register your dynamic system with us. Without registration your system will still work, but will be limited to the fixed default limits:
- Export: 1.5kW
- Import: 1.5kW
If you’d like to understand more about how dynamic connections work, see our About dynamic connections web page before completing your registration.
How to Register
Follow these 3 simple steps to complete your dynamic connection registration.
-
1 Register for our Customer Self-Service Portal
- Provide your contact details and National Meter Identifier (NMI - find your NMI on your electricity bill). When entering your name, make sure it matches exactly as it appears on your bill. Need help understanding your electricity bill?
- Check out How to read your electricity bill (PDF) on the Energy Made Easy website
- Learn about Self Service
- Learn How to register to Self Service.
-
2 Update Smart Energy Profile 2.0 (SEP2) Details
- View Customer Self Service Guide – Dynamic Registration (PDF) or watch the instructional video
- Select your SEP2 Client Provider from the list in the portal
- Enter your Long Form Device Identifier (LFDI) if required.
Where to find LFDI details:
- On your inverter - Look under settings for “Commissioning” or “Registration.” The Client ID or LFDI is usually listed there
- Manufacturer support - Check their website, app, or online portal
- Your solar installer - They may have these details or can guide you on where to find them.
Important
In some cases, the applicant who submitted the dynamic connect application on your behalf may have already provided your LFDI details.
However, you still need to register for the Customer Self‑Service Portal so you can:
- view the information that has already been submitted
- update or correct any details if needed
- manage your email or SMS notifications
- stay informed about your system’s communication status.
-
3 Consent to SMS and Email Alerts
- We’ll only contact you if there’s a communication issue with your equipment.
Once you’ve completed these steps, we’ll send you a confirmation email to let you know that your registration was successful and your equipment should begin communicating with our servers within a few days.
Key information about your dynamic connection
Moving or selling your property
The dynamic connection remains with the property. When a new resident/owner sets up their electricity account, we’ll guide them through their own registration process.
Learn more about connecting or modifying solar, battery, or other renewable energy systems at your home or business by visiting How to connect - Homeowners & small businesses.
Dynamic operating terms
- Your equipment is registered under a single “end device”
- If you have multiple inverters or batteries, your installer will configure them to communicate through one central device
- Dynamic limits apply to the entire site, not to each device individually.
Export and import limits
- Export Limit: Maximum energy sent/exported to the grid, updated as frequently as every five minutes, with a forecast of up to 24 hours ahead
- Import Limit: Maximum energy drawn/imported from the grid, updated as frequently as every five minutes, with a forecast of up to 24 hours ahead.
Import limits only apply where equipment capable of importing, such as batteries or EV chargers.
Keeping your dynamic connection active
To receive the full benefit of a dynamic connection, your system requires an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or wired).
If your system goes offline, it will continue to operate but will automatically revert to the fixed default dynamic export limit and fixed dynamic import limit until the connection is restored.
Notifications and alerts
- If your system loses communication for more than 5 days after your SEP2 details have been provided, we’ll send a one-time email to the registered user for your NMI
- This email will guide you on how to restore connectivity
- You can opt out of these notifications at any time.
Frequently asked questions
(need to create these FAQs in the FAQs page as data records, then embed below)
You'll need to update your inverter or gateway device settings which can be done through the inverter's user interface, or by following specific instructions provided by your inverter manufacturer, or by speaking with your installer or another qualified installer.
If communications with your inverter or gateway device fail, you’ll need to restore the connection to ensure your system can operate normally. This can be done through the inverter’s user interface, or by following the specific instructions provided by your inverter manufacturer, or by speaking with your installer or another qualified installer.
While the system is offline, it will continue to operate but will automatically revert to the fixed default dynamic export limit and fixed default dynamic import limit until the connection is restored.
The dynamic connection provider used by your solar installer (usually through an app or portal) may show when export limits were applied to your dynamic system. The features and functionality vary between providers, so check with your installer or the supplier of the dynamic connection device to understand what information is provided.
If you use a separate monitoring system or app to track your solar performance, it may also show when your export was limited.
Because the communication required for dynamic connections relies on your premises’ internet, any modifications such as Wi-Fi credentials or replacing the modem or router may interrupt communication with our dynamic connection server.
If the connection can’t be restored, your system will continue to operate but will automatically revert to the fixed default dynamic export limit and fixed default dynamic import limit until the connection is restored.
You will need to contact your installer to restore the connection.
